Sometimes It’s Better When Things Go Wrong

April was a trying month. As we were gearing up for our second annual event, at a location that we had secured way in advance, we found out that that location would no longer be able to host us due to zoning and licensing issues that they were having with the city. Shortly after that, our director became ill and needed surgery. On top of that there were some major changes and the start of an awesome new program working with the Utah State Department of Juvenile Justice.  Try as we might, we weren’t able to find a new location in time and we were devastated. We held a meeting to talk about what to do next and someone came up with an idea. Within days we had a new sponsor, The Pink Flamingo Beauty Bar and Barber, and an awesome location.

The event has been moved forward to May 24th and we could not be more excited. The Pink Flamingo did an awesome fashion show last year, and they will be helping us to make ours even more amazing. They have incredibly talented stylists and a great environment and we are thrilled to welcome them to our team. The event will now be in the heart of downtown, near The Gateway, and it is going to be a blast.

We have a number of things that will be going on at this event, including

~The Fashion Show with original designs and styles put together from the Uptown Cheapskate closet, featuring youth and adult models of all types, shapes, sizes and styles
~Art of all types on display, including poetry, music, dance, jewelry, painting and much more
~The Paper Airplane Project display with the submissions from the RAD Youth Council website (Click for more info)
~Photo booths
~An awesome raffle

In addition we will have a number of awesome activity booths:

~Henna
~Hair consultations and styling for your face shape and style
~Makeup consultation and styling for your skin type and style
~Clothing consultations at the Uptown Cheapskate closet with stylists
~Local business vendors
~Community Nonprofit  booths
~and MORE!

So, we have decided that sometimes, when things seem to go wrong, it’s because they are about to go even more right. We will be updating the page and blog with info throughout the week, if you have questions, please Contact Us Here.
